Even though I go to work in DC at least once a week these days, I rarely get a chance to wander around doing the touristy things. But this I had to go pick up my cell phone from the lost and found at Union Station, and I decided to skip work, play hooky from school, and make a day of it.

I went to the mall and the Mall, and had lunch with a very dear friend. It was a very gray, quiet, day, warm for November. I took lots of pictures (to follow) though I'm not sure if they were any good.

Washington seems tired. Maybe it was just the weather, the pervasive construction, the lack of American tourists (maybe they all stayed home to vote tomorrow?) Even the Falun Dafa demonstrators, usually vocal and agitated, were subdued.

The Capital grounds are shrouded in construction fence. Every ten feet, a sign proclaims, "this area closed for construction - 2009 inauguration." Television trucks were already staking ground for tomorrow night's coverage.

No matter what happens, I know that Washington will feel different on Friday. It has to. Even if McCain is elected (which, at this point, seems seriously doubtful) there will be change, new purpose, new opportunity to reverse the failures and hard luck of the past eight years.

And that's a good thing.

101 in ... 1310?

I'm working to put together a list of things I want to accomplish before I turn 25. The standard meme is 101 things in 1001 days, but not-quite three years just didn't seem like enough time for me to do some of the big-picture things I'm hoping to accomplish- things like Peace Corps, or starting graduate school. So I'm forging my own path here!

This list will be a work in progress. I'm planning to start with a solid 50 or so things, and add as I go. We'll see. I'll also have to work to reformat the blog into an acceptable three-column layout, with the goals on the left side.

This is a terribly entry, but I've been very slow to get into NaBloPoMo (see yesterday's pitiful entry). Even with an extra hour, I managed to put off updating until, literally, the 11th hour... we'll see if things get better as the month progresses.

I love these ads, for their ingenuity, their visual richness, and their music. I also like that they don't overtly feature the products they advertise. Instead, they grab the viewer and draw their attention, only coming in at the end with the (soft) sell.
